13 Tips to Get Rid of Dandruff

Dandruff is loose white flakes in its simplest form which fall off on the shoulder and back region. The flakes might be yellow in color too. And often dandruff is accompanied by mild itching. And at times, these flakes stick to the scalp with the oily secretions, and this is known as ‘sticky dandruff’. Dandruff can be noticed mostly in winter season, as the scalp becomes dry and flaky due to decrease in moisture.

Dandruff in all its forms and colors, are undesirable, and people want to get rid of it. So, you are going to find some tips which can help you to keep dandruff at bay. Read on.

Shampoo daily - Wash hair regularly. Dandruff is not caused by your hair, but when the scalp sloughs the dead skin cells, dandruff is caused. So until the flakes subside, try to shampoo your hair everyday with an anti-dandruff shampoo. But then excessive shampooing will irritate the scalp and dry it out.

Take your time for shampooing - You need to spare a few minutes for your anti-dandruff shampoo to work before you rinse it off. So, give the shampoo at least 5 minutes to work on the scalp before you wash it off.

Brushing the hair - Just after shampooing, brush your hair properly. Brushing will redistribute oil that is formed in the scalp and the hair. So, start brushing from the scalp and brush it outwards.

No stress - Keep your stress aside, as a stressful life can help in dandruff formation.

Yogurt Pack - Rub plain yogurt on your hair just after washing your hair. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it off. After mildly shampooing your hair, use a mixture of thyme, nettle and 2 tablespoonful of vinegar on the hair, and wash it off after sometime to get a healthier scalp.

Cedarwood – Take essential oils of cedarwood, cypress, juniper and mix them. Now, massage your scalp with these essential oils and keep it for 1 hour. After that apply shampoo and wash it off with lukewarm water. You can also mix these oils in 600 ml water, stir everything well, apply it and rinse it off after an hour or so.

Baking Soda – Skip your regular shampoo and use baking soda instead. Rub baking soda on wet hair and keep it for a minute. After that, wash thoroughly. Use this for two weeks and your scalp will start producing natural oils and keep your scalp moisturized and free from dandruff.

Apple Cider Vinegar – After washing the hair, use vinegar as a scrub onto the hair. Let it remain on the scalp for 15 minutes and the smell of the vinegar will disappear if it has dried out. Wash off your hair. Use this daily for one week.

Coconut Oil – After shampooing your hair, skip conditioning the hair and dry your hair properly. Apply coconut oil only on your scalp, not on the hair. After a few hours, wash off your scalp properly. Repeat this process at least once every week.

Tea Tree Oil – Use a shampoo which has tea tree oil in it and use it regularly. Tea Tree oil has an amazing aroma and is also an antiseptic. Rub this shampoo on your hair and keep it for 5 minutes, then wash it off.

Aspirin – Take 2 Aspirin tablets and after breaking them keep it on a napkin. Crush the aspirin and add it to your shampoo. While shampooing, keep the shampoo on your hair for 2 minutes and after that rinse off thoroughly.

Baby Oil – Massage your scalp with baby oil. Now place a towel on your head to cover it and leave the oil overnight. In the morning, use an anti-dandruff shampoo to wash your hair.

Fenugreek Seeds – Grind 1 tablespoonful of fenugreek seeds (methi) roughly and let it soak in 2 cups of water whole night. In the morning, strain and then you can use the water to wash your hair.
