If you have oily skin, its very natural for you to feel that you are not-so-lucky, as at times your face becomes greasy and looks like oil slick. I do feel the same too, as I too have oily skin. But its also a fact that as we age, oily skin remains better than dry skin. Oil in the skin keeps the skin plumpy, which allows skin to form lesser wrinkles. And it has also been observed that many women who have oily skin during their teenage or 20s, tend to get dry skin as they reach late 30s or early 40s.

Oily skin becomes oily very fast, may be within an hour after you have cleansed it well. I know, you girls already know it. And also you must have noticed that the t-zone area which is forehead, nose till chin become more oily. Also oily skin makes us suffer from blackheads, large pores, and acne.

Now, if you are unsure whether you have oily skin or not, here is a simple thing which you can try in order to determine your skin type. Take a paper napkin and then press it on your t-zone, like on your nose or chin area. Then pull it away, if the napkin gets translucent with oil, that indicates you have oily skin. But then if your cheeks remain dry and flaky, then that’s a sign that you have combination skin.

What causes oily skin? : Overactive sebaceous glands result in oily skin. And the sebum production is increased further due to heat and humidity. Therefore, you will notice you suffer more in summer months than winter season.

How to take care of oily skin? : If you want to treat your oily skin properly, do not use a lot of products. Do not exfoliate the skin too much and also avoid using too much of those drying toners, that would only result in production of more sebum. So, here’s a basic skin routine for oily skin.
  • Use a cleanser which is formulated for oily skin. Cleanse your skin at night and then in the morning use lukewarm water in the morning, this will ensure that the skin is not getting over-cleansed. Because over-cleansing will result in making the skin more oily.
  • If you want to use a moisturizer, make sure its oil-free moisturizer. But personally I never use moisturizer during summer time.
  • Use a gentle scrub to exfoliate the skin every week at least 2 times.
  • If you are suffering from acne, then use an astringent. You can also use toners.

Makeup for oily skin : If you love applying eye shadows, bronzers and blushers, make sure you use only powder forms of these cosmetics, especially in summer season. For foundations, it is always better you stick to oil-free foundations. Don’t powder your face too much, its better use blotting papers instead.

Skin treatments for oily skin : Clay mask is really good for oily skin, as this reduces the formation of blackheads. Also you may use facial steam.

  1. Wiping them with homemade or cotton cloth can cause infections. Also rashes can occur due to the usage of cloth on the tender soft smooth skin.
